What One Day Could Do To You
The spot she is in is the highest point of the mountain. She looks at the purple gray caps of the lower points of the mountain overlooking a crystal blue lake. The spot she is in has a lot of tall grass and she is standing in the middle of that field looking at the sun coming up, letting the sun rays glow on her face as she closes her eyes and lift her hands to the heavens. She spins around in the grass until she falls. She is surrounded by the tall grass that looks like stings of gold from the newly rising sun hitting them. She let the tall grass come down and tickle her face. She got up, looked at the mountain, the lake, and the flawless sunrise, as she closes her eyes and lift her hands as she feels the wind blowing on her, standing in awe of the One who made it all. This is her favorite place to be in the mornings. She wants to be alone as she prays to her God and found this perfect place. She does this every morning. As she’s there with her eyes closed and hands to the sky as her iPod plays, she feels a strong gust of wind. She opens her eyes to see dark, almost black clouds headed her way. This is rare in her spot, in the mornings at least. But she does not move. She just keeps doing what she is doing. She dances around in her white sun dress knowing it was going to be one of her best mornings.
After five minutes, she heard a clap of thunder followed by a flash of lighting. Then the rain comes. The rain starts off full force, raining to hard it looked like there was a fog. But she still dances in the raining singing her praises to God. She stops to lift her hands and head to the sky as she lets the rain fall on her. She sits right in the middle of the pouring rain and prays.
“Thank you Lord Jesus for everything you do! Thank you for your love, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and understanding! That’s why I love you Lord Jesus….” She hears another clap of thunder
“You’re just so awesome Lord Jesus! Just so mind blowing!”
She thinks about her past few weeks in this time and starts to cry as the rain poured harder.
“Lord Jesus I want to say I’m sorry for everything I’ve done.” She gets on her knees and lifts her hands high above her head. The rain keeps getting even stronger as she prays at the top of her voice.
“Lord Jesus, I pray that you forgive me! I want you to take my sin away from me! I don’t want it anymore! I want to you YOUR will Lord Jesus, NOT MINE!” She felt as if the rain was washing her sin away. As if God was sending down the rain to clean her from everything. She gets up and starts to dance around and splashing in puddles feeling so alive.
“THANK YOU LORD JESUS!” She screams as another clap of thunder rumbles from the sky. In risk of getting her iPod wet, she takes it out and starts dancing to the song “You Only” By Tree 63, as she jumps up and down praising her Father, Lord, King, and Maker of all. The rain slowly starts to ease up until ten minutes later it stops and the clouds clear to reveal the beautiful sun shining just as brightly as it did before the rain. Then she sees a rainbow spread across the sky. She felt as if God was telling her that she is now a new person, and everything is forgotten. She likes this feeling that she has. Her hair is a mess from all the dancing and twirling she did, and her white dress is wet and on the bottom, her dress is stained with mud and grass stains. She knows she should go back to the house and get warm, but her heart is just so on fire right now, that she just does not care! She goes over to look at the lake, thinking about how pretty it is.
She starts to walk to head over there. She is walking around bushes and trees, just thinking about how awesome God is. Then she sees a girl, 17, in jeans, a black T-shirt, and black sneakers, wrapped up in a long red, black, and gray blanket. She gets closer to see that this girl is crying.
“What’s wrong”, she asked her.
“My name is Amy. And I really don’t want to talk about it right now”
“That’s fine, I understand” She said giving her a small hug.
“Why are you such a mess?” Amy asked laughing a little bit.
She did not want to spring on Amy just yet that she was a Christian and what she was REALLY doing to have herself look like a mess.
“I just like to dance in the rain sometimes.” She said.
Amy let out a giggle, but was satisfied with her answer.
“So what school do you go to?” Amy asked with lack of anything else to say.
“O, I go to Coral Gables High School” She said
“Hey, that’s my school too. That’s kind of cool”
“Yea it is. Um…………………What kind of T.V. shows to you watch?” She asked.
“Oh, um…..I like House, NCIS, CSI, and a bunch of Diseny stuff too. Nothing much” Amy said
“Ok, are you like my twin or something? I love all the same stuff!” She said in a slight laugh, in hopes to get Amy to laugh a little too.
She closed her eyes to talk to God for a minute. When she opened her eyes, Amy was looking through her ipod.
“What kind of bands are theses? I have never heard any of them before.” Amy said still looking at the artists on the screen.
“Well, why don’t you find out for yourself huh?” She asked as she gave Amy an ear phone.
“Ok, I guess.” Amy said as she put the earphone in her ear.
“This is one of my favorite songs. It’s called ‘You Only’ by Tree 63” She said as she hit the play button on her iPod.
Amy sits there and listens to half of the song, listening to the words carefully. Then she takes the iPod off.
“Are you a Christian?” Amy asked.
Yes, I am, so now you guessed my type of music.” She said.
Amy just buries her face in her hands and started crying again. She could not figure out why. She did not say anything wrong.
“Why are you crying again?” She asked as she patted her on the back a few times.
“I was at youth group last night and they were talking about the plan that God has for everyone. What was our reason to live? I don’t think I have a reason here. I never really believed in God so I don’t think God has a plan for people who do not follow Him. I felt worthless after that. I want to have a reason to live but I think that God does not want me.”
She starts crying even harder as she kept explaining.
“I was think my life was nothing. So I came out not too long after the rain ended to think about my life, and what I have done. After thinking about it, I thought God must hate me. So that’s when I just started to cry.”
She still could not see Amy’s reason for crying over her being a Christian.
“I want God. I want God so much that I am willing to do anything to have a reason to live.”
At first she thanks God for the wonderful morning she is having. Then she asks God to guide her words as she speaks to Amy. When she looked back, Amy was looking at her with her sky blue eyes filled with tears and her brown hair covering half her face. She takes a deep breath and says in her mind “My hearts on fire, feels like it burning. It’s the feeling of love, because it’s You I’m serving” Then she starts talking to Amy.
“Well Amy. God is really cool. Let’s just say that God is like a parent, only better! If you do something wrong, God will not punish you. But if you ask for forgiveness, He WILL forgive you. But you have to mean it with your whole heart! You just can’t say ‘forgive me God’ and then do it again. You have to TRY not to do it again. Sometimes people slip up, but we all make mistakes. And I thought that God would not forgive me from all the things I had done to. Like I used to steal, I cheated a lot on test and quizzes; I mouthed off my parents so many times and ran away from home to go live with boyfriends. And I was a bit of a if you get the picture. But I was wrong. Somehow, someway, God told me I was forgiven. And you can be forgiven as well. All you have to do is ask for it.”
After she was done, Amy looks at her, looks around, and then looks at herself. She knows Amy is thinking about all she just said. She had done the same thing her first time hearing about all of it.
Amy starts asking question after question after question. Like how do we know He is really there? How do we know there is a heaven or hell? She was happy to answer them all the best way she could.
I want to know God! I want to feel His amazing Love. I want to have something different like I see in you. I want it so badly.”
Amy almost yanked her arm. “What do I have to do to have what you have?”
“Just pray” she said.
Then Amy just looks down at the ground, almost crying again. Then it hits her. Amy may have never prayed before. She does not know how. So she takes Amy’s hands without warning and starts to pray out loud for Amy.
“Father, I thank you for the day you have given us and I want to thank you for Amy. She is a lost and hurting child wanting to run to You. I pray that through you, and you through me, we can help her know you and help her see that she is loved deeply by you and that now with you in her heart, she has every reason to live. I pray this in your name, Amen.”
Amy’s head was still down and she was moving her lips. She knows that means she’s praying on her own. Amy shook sometimes but it’s only because she is crying. All she can do now is just hug Amy and pray for her in her head. When Amy was done, she hugged her. She looks at Amy to see tears streaming down her face and a huge smile.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!!!!” Amy said to her as she starts laughing.
“Hey, no problem, I’m always happy to help out. I would love to help you learn more about God if you me to.” She said in a shy kind of voice.
“Can we start now? I want to learn about God as soon as possible!” Amy said to her.
She took out her iPod and found the song “Desert Song” by HillSong and gave Amy the earphone to listen to it.
“The song talks about how we can trust God in the good and bad times, and if we think it’s getting too hard, to not give up but to keep holding on.”She said to Amy before she started playing it.
After the song finished playing, she said “O.k, now I am going to restart the song and tell you bit by bit what the song is talking about. Like more in depth” She said as Amy nodded to her. She restarted the song, telling Amy everything. Amy looks at her with wide eyes as the teachings just get more awesome to listen too! Then it came to the end of the song. The last two lines are “I know I’m filled to be emptied again. The seed I receive I will sow.”
“O.K, what does that line mean?” Amy asked her.
“As followers of Christ, we all have out ups and downs. We are going to be drained of our faith by people who are testing us or even being tested by God. That shows how strong we are in our faith. But by praying and reading the bible, and just being around things that up lift us, we can be filled once again.”
Amy is in deep thought after hearing that. But she understands what she was saying. Amy then had a smile on her face, fully understanding what she was about to do next. She wants to accept Christ into her life. She was thanking the LORD in her head as Amy’s face just got more and more excited. She has no doubt in her mind that this is what she wants to do. She then took Amy’s hands and says she is going to pray, and when she says “repeat after me”, to repeat her. She starts praying
“LORD Jesus, we thank you for this day Lord God, and I want to thank you for Amy. She does not want to be broken anymore. She wants to run out of the darkness and into the light leading up into Your arms. I pray that she gives her life to you and follow Your ways and goes on the path that You want her to go to.”
Then she said to Amy to repeat after her.
“Dear LORD Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that my sins keep me far from you. But I pray that you take my heart, and change it in a way, that no one else but You can. I give you my life. Amen.”
Amy had the biggest smile on her face when they were done. She hugged and thanked her over and over again. That day was a new start for Amy. Amy went home while she went over to the lake to reflect on her day and her time with Amy. She felt so at peace with God. She knew that God was happy with her as she turned on her iPod to a few worship songs as she spent some time by the lake, and walked on home. It had truly been the best day she had ever had.
A few months later Amy was in a tall grassy field during sunrise singing and praising to her God. As she thinks about how beautiful the lake is, she goes through the forest to go over there. As Amy walks, she sees a girl by a tree crying. Amy prays for the Lord to speak through her as she walks over there. The girl sees Amy and Amy asks
“Hey, are you OK?”
“My name is Shannon and I really don’t want to talk about it right now” She said
“O, ok, My name is Amy. Can I ask you a question?” She asks as she sits down next to Shannon.
“Yea sure, what is it?” Shannon asks.
Amy takes a deep breath and asks “Do you believe in Jesus Christ?”
